In partnership with Central Railway to provide free, clean drinking water

  • Installations are part of YES BANK’s joint commitment with Indian Railways to provide safe and clean drinking water at 1,000 railway stations across India by 2019
  • Systems installed in ‘D’ and ‘E’ category railway stations across Pune, Solapur, Bhusawal, and Nagpur Divisions

Mumbai, March 22, 2017 (GPN) : On the occasion of World Water Day, YES BANK, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, announced that it has installed water purification systems, in partnership with Central Railway, in 192 category ‘D’ and ‘E’ railway stations in Pune, Solapur, Bhusawal and Nagpur divisions in Maharashtra as part of its flagship CSR intervention, ‘Livelihood and Water Security’. The initiative is part of YES BANK’s joint commitment with Indian Railways, to provide safe and clean drinking water at 1,000 ‘D’ and ‘E’ category railway stations, across India by 2019. In FY16, YES BANK installed over 84 water purifications systems at railway stations across the Konkan belt, Raigad and other locations in Maharashtra.

Over the last two years, through its ‘Livelihood and Water Security’ CSR intervention, YES BANK has provided access to safe & clean drinking water to more than 13 million Indians. In addition to installing water purification systems at railway stations, YES BANK has also installed 150 community water purification systems at key locations. The Bank has also partnered with the Delhi Jal Board for installing water ATMs (a unique concept adopted by the bank to serve clean drinking water), in and around the Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters of Delhi, to provide safe and purified drinking water to underserved communities at an affordable price.

Speaking on the initiative, Ms. Namita Vikas, Group President & Global Head, Climate Strategy & Responsible Banking, YES BANK Ltd, said, “YES BANK recognizes that access to safe and clean drinking water is a vital unmet need in certain regions in our country. Through its partnership with Central Railway and the resulting deeper penetration into Maharashtra, YES BANK is one step closer to achieving its commitment of touching 100 million lives by providing access to safe and clean drinking water by 2020 and contributing to global Sustainable Development Goals.”

For the water purification system, YES BANK has partnered with a social start-up which uses an innovative, membrane-based water purification technology that purifies water in an eco-friendly manner with zero electricity, zero chemicals and zero wastage. The filters are made using food grade material.
