Registration for the celebratory tenth edition of the TCS World 10K commences

World’s premier 10K scheduled on 21st May 2017

Bengaluru, 23rd March 2017 (GPN) : Celebrating its tenth year in the city, Procam International today announced the start of the registration process for the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K 2017, Bengaluru. Scheduled for the third Sunday in May, 21st  May 2017,, this year’s run will be the seventh under the prestigious TCS Banner, with the prize money fund increased to a whopping 2,05,059 USD.

With the customary flag off at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium, this year’s run will look to attract the leading track and field road runners with its increased prize money and by being the fastest course on road that curves through some of the most iconic locations in the city, including the canopy of trees at Cubbon Park.

Runners will participate across five categories headlined by the Elite World 10K that attract the World’s fastest athletes, the Open 10K for the committed amateurs, the 6 km Majja Run for the enthusiasts, the 4km Senior Citizens Run for participants above the age of 60 and the Champions with Disability run.

Registrations for the run open on 23rd March 2017and will  close on 13th April or till the availability of running slots for the Open 10K, while registrations for the other three categories close on the 28thof April 2017.

Commenting on the continued association with this run, Nagraj Ijari, Vice President & Head Tata Consultancy Services said, “We has always been a strong promoter of an active and healthy lifestyle for our employees and their families, our customers and  the communities we live in. We are proud that our Fit for Life initiative, has seen more than 2.5 Million Fitness Hours Clocked this year in comparison to the 1.62 Millions hours clocked the previous year. Re-affirming the State Governments commitment to the run, Pramodh Madhavaraj, Sports Minister, Government of Karnataka shared, “I on behalf of Karnataka appreciate the TCS Familiy’s contribution to the development of the fitness movement in the city and making Bengaluru proud of their commitment to being healthy, globally. I am happy that 24,000 people of all ages, across all categories will be participating in this year’s event. The contribution to charity has also been commendable and we complement the efforts of the people who have raised 26 crores in charity alone across the ten years, which shows that this run is not only about the sport, but also about giving. The Government of Karnataka will always extend its support to the run, this year and in the years to come.”

Encouraging the competitive spirit of the amateur runner, Procam International is continuing with a ‘priority line-up’ section in the Open 10K to allow participants to set new personal best times. Confirmed applicants will be eligible for a priority line-up on race day or be slotted in section A, if their timing certificate accompanying their application confirms a 10K finish in the last 24 months in under 00:50 minutes.  Applicants can also request for a priority line-up based on their previous performances while submitting their application forms along with a valid timing certificate.

Continuing their focus on the female runner this year, limited slots are available for women runners who do not have previous timing certificates.

Bengaluru’s homegrown superstar, Puneeth Rajkumar – who continues as the face of the event extended an open and cordial invitation to Bengaluru, to get on the streets and be part of the fastest growing fitness movement in the country. Urging the city to come together on the occasion of the run, the actor shared, “The TCS World 10 K  has become synonymous with the city. It is a chance for all of us to experience the joy of running, no distance is too long and the challenge of running your first or your tenth run will always be memorable. Increased Prize Money: For the tenth edition, the prize money for the prestigious 10K is USD 2,05,059and the highest prize money for the champion at USD 26,000. An additional incentive for the elite runners breaking the course record has two attractive prize categories –Course Record Jackpot of USD 6,000 for the Elites and INR. 2,00,000 for the Indian winner for the top three finishers and a New Course Record Bonus: USD 1,000 for International Elite and INR 50,000 for the Indian Winners.

Largest Charity Platform in South India: With the TCS World 10K recognized as the highest fund-raising platform in South India, the charity drive associated with the event, is also poised for a quantum leap this year with Philanthropy Partner India Cares.  For the last ten years, the TCS World 10K has raised over INR.26.33 Crore, supporting more than 300 NGOs – benefitting various causes.
