Sony Pictures Networks India acquires the exclusive television broadcast rights for Nexa P1 Powerboat, Indian Grand Prix of the Seas

•LIVE Telecast of Powerboat Racing for the First Time in the World on SONY ESPN, SONY ESPN HD, Sony PIX and Sony PIX HD channels as well as LIVE streamed on SonyLIV app and website

 

•Unique “Second Screen” Experience for Fans for the First Time in India across any Sport

Mumbai, February 24, 2017 (GPN) : Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) is the broadcast partner for the inaugural edition of Nexa P1 Powerboat, Indian Grand Prix of the Seas, the global series in powerboat racing being launched from India by Procam International, the country’s leading sports management company. This will be the first time in the world that powerboat racing will be telecast live. In addition, in a first-of-its-kind across all sports, fans will experience a “second screen”, which will provide personalized content that will elevate the race experience to a whole new level for viewers.

 

SPN will bring home to millions of fans the thrilling action from the shores of Mumbai’s natural amphitheatre, Marine Drive, during the race weekend. The telecast repertoire includes 9 hours of LIVE programming on SONY ESPN, SONY ESPN HD, SONY PIX, and SONY PIX HD channels commencing on 3rd March until 5th March 2017. The live telecast will run for three hours daily from2:00pm – 5:00pm.

 

In addition to this, the event will be LIVE streamed on SonyLIV, the first premium Video on Demand service. 

 

The telecast for the Nexa P1 Powerboat, Indian Grand Prix of the Seas, is expected to set a global benchmark for the telecast of the sport and entertainment around it. The content production by Initium Productions and Emmy Awards winner British director, Westbury Gillet, has put together a global, hi-tech crew and equipment flown in from 3 continents. The event promises to be the most comprehensive coverage in the history of power boating

 

Another first for the sport is the introduction of the ‘second screen’ to take live sports experience to new areas where fans will have access to images and information of what they want to watch at all times. The second screen is a gamified graphics interface to be followed live on an internet-connected device for real-time access to gamified positions, telemetric race data & analytics, in addition to the television broadcast.

The Grand Prix of the Seas is the brainchild of P1 Global, the world’s leading maritime motor sports brand, in partnership with India’s leading sports management company, Procam International. This is the first of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) endorsed Grand Prix of the Seas and is conducted under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI).  Procam International and P1 Global have created a format and ranking system where in five years the Grand Prix of the Seas (World Championship Series) will be in 12 global cities, including five in India.

 

The race weekend for the Indian Grand Prix of the Seas will have 6 world-class teams comprising of 2 boats each, featuring 24 of the world’s best pilots and navigators competing on a first-time race track on water.
