Mumbai, 13 January 2017 : Bank of Baroda initiated a national drive on December 1, 2016 from village Dhasai; by making it first cashless village of the country and setting an example for others to follow. Thereafter, it has made continuous efforts to empower the villages of the country in going cashless. This is not only helping the villagers to get acquainted with the cashless transactions using various digital channels but also touching their hearts by making them self reliant in these times of post demonetization.

The journey started with Dhasai, then Saralgaon, Tokavade, Shivkar, Usarli and now the bandwagon came to Kelwa and Mahim Village, Palghar District.

The district administration of Palghar and Bank of Baroda organized Digidhan Mela. The mela was targeted to enable Mahim and Kelva villages of Palghar district with alternative means for cashless banking. The participation of the bankers, Govt departments and local traders/vendors was the main attraction. The district administration organized a presentation on cashless banking which was followed by handing over of POS machines/QR Codes to the vendors. A rangoli competition was organized by the students on cashless theme and participation was in large number. All the dignitaries appreciated the creativity of children. A rally was organized in the morning by school children to promote cashless transactions.

The programme was graced by Collector of Palghar Shri Abhijit Bangar and Co-Chaired by Shri Navtej Singh, General Manager, Mumbai Zone, Bank of Baroda. Other senior functionaries of district administration and Bank were also present. A large number of villagers participated in the programme which reflects the interest and willingness of villagers to move forward with cashless zindagi which itself proves to be bindass zindagi.
