Omkar, Ashlesha to lead the charge for Team ACE in Mumbai Super League 2016

MUMBAI 6 JULY 2016 :
Mumbai Super League is franchise based Table Tennis league that was
started last year & organized jointly by the Mumbai City District

Table Tennis Association (MCDTTA) and Mumbai Suburban District Table
Tennis Association (MSDTTA). From this year the event is being
exclusively organized and managed by 11Even Sports.

In the words of Kamlesh Mehta, though the league began as an
experiment last year and is only at the district level, it has been a
test case for its big avataar, the National Table Tennis league or
International Format. The event was held last year in Khar Gymkhana
with 8 teams participating in it and was held over 2 days in June
2015.

The playing format was of two groups of four teams each competing in
round robin, followed by the semifinals and final. Each outfit will
have to play nine matches (worth 10 points each) per clash. There are
six categories in singles — men, women, junior boys, junior girls,
cadet boys and veteran men. Additionally three doubles set-ups adding
to the mix — men with veterans, junior boys with girls, men with
junior boys.

However the enthusiasm and cheer that it got from players, team owners
and well wishers, it is bigger and better this year with 6 out of the
8 teams continuing with the league and have signed 3 year contracts.
Team owners include varied personalities including Dipanita Sharma
(model & actress), owners of Table Tennis Academies, hoteliers &
digital media agency owners, corporate workers and business houses.
Additionally 4 new teams have been added this year in 2016 including a
team in which former India Hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay holds a stake.
