India’s F&B industry on growth path

According to a recent report, India’s food and beverage (F&B) industry is expected to grow at an average annual pace of 24 per cent and targeted to reach Rs.3.8 trillion in sales by 2017. The restaurant sector is reported to grow the fastest, whilst cafes will see growth of 10.7 per cent annually. Indian consumers, especially young people between 20 to 25 years old, are also noted to be spending half of their total consumption expenditure on food. Urbanisation, changing lifestyles and food preferences are key factors impacting the growth of the industry[1].

Speaking at a press conference today Mr. Himanshu Taneja, Executive Chef, JW Marriott says, “2016 is a big year for the F&B industry with great innovations in the pipeline. Simple crafted dishes made with ingredients that are locally grown and organic will take centre stage. Consumers will expect more than the ordinary, dishes which have a unique story to tell and restaurants which are social media friendly will be cherished. Insightful conferences and exhibitions like FHA2016 and FHA2016 International Conference showcase the industry’s development and innovation, and cater to the region’s booming hospitality segment.”

Also speaking at the press conference today, Ms. Ting Siew Mui, Project Director – Lifestyle Events of organiser, Singapore Exhibition Services added, “India’s F&B industry is diverse and expected to grow, as lifestyles change and people, especially in the urban areas, becoming more affluent. FHA2016 – with its range of technologies, products and services covering all sectors of the food and hospitality industries – is an invaluable sourcing ground for Indian attendees under one roof. Indian participants will have opportunities to engage with major international and regional players and expand their business networks.”
